Family STEAM Nights

Tuesdays at 4 PM, Grades 1-5

Easy to intermediate STEAM activities for elementary school students and their parents.

  • September 14: Egg Drop: Let’s try some simple engineering. Design a protective suit to protect an egg from breaking when it is dropped from different heights. Eggs provided. Grades K-5
  • September 21: Things that fly: It’s a hovercraft. It’s a paper airplane. It’s a zipline. Let’s explore different things that fly. Materials provided. Grades K-5
  • September 28: Bouncy Balls: Did you know chemistry could bounce? Let’s find out how by making some bouncy balls. Materials provided Grades K-5
  • October 5: Robots: The robots are coming! Join us for a fun night where we get to try out the library’s robots. Grades K- 5.
  • October 12: Monster Slime: Let’s get spooky with chemistry and make some monster slime.
  • October 19: Exploring space: Let’s explore space with some fun activities and try out the Library’s Telescopes: grades K-5 masks required.

Serendipity is a stories and songs program for elementary school students in Grades K-5.

  • 9/16/2021: Bear Breaks Into Chocolate Factory! Lower Level Meeting Room A true story from Estes Park, Colorado. Let’s make something chocolate, yummy and fun! (Parents: We will wear masks and latex gloves.)
  • 9/23/2021: Talk like a Pirate Day: Ahoy ye maties, hear Pirate tales and sea chanties. Learn pirate-speak and teach your parents a rad way to say “dinner is served.” Make your own pirate costume accessories.
  • 9/30/2021: Jug Band Jump and Jive: Be in the Jug Band, play the washboard, the limberjack, and the spoons, etc. Dance the Virginia Reel, and cook up some magic cornbread.
  • 10/7/2021: –: “a live-action play, a mad scientist creates a computer program to connect new kids in town with new best friends who come sliding out of the huge 1965 computer.
    Craft: Create your own “old-time computer.”
  • 10/14/2021: “The 3 Bears’ Chairs,”: Come and try out the 3 Bears’ Chairs, and see a musical shadow puppet play “Goldie and the 3 Bears.” Next, we’ll act out the funny Appalachian folktale, “The Great Big Bear.” Craft: Make bear paw tracks.
  • 10/21/2021: Baseball: “Let’s celebrate our National Pastime with the exciting Canine World Series between the Hounds and the Doggers. Will Homer live up to his name? Baseball lacing craft.
  • 10/28/2021: Halloween Hoot and Holler: “You’ll Hoot and Holler when you hear“Jack and the Haunted House” and boogie to a ghostly tune. Bring a Halloween joke to tell, ex. “When the ghost kids get in the car, what does the ghostly mom say?……… Fasten your sheet belts!” Make a Halloween decoration for your home.”
