We are open!

The Summit Free Public Library is currently offering in-person service and curbside pick-up for borrowing materials. We ask that visits to the library not exceed one hour. Following local health department guidelines, capacity is limited to 20 patrons at a time. Photocopying, faxing, scanning and printing services are available. Our computers are available by appointment for one hour per day. All of our reading tables are available for single-use only and not intended for group work or tutoring. To ensure safety, our quiet study rooms, meeting rooms, and Think-it Lab remain closed and all programming continues to be virtual. Curbside service is still available for those who prefer it. Due to safety reasons related to sanitizing, our bathrooms are not available for public use.

Hours for in-person visits and curbside service is as follows:

  • Monday – Thursday: 10 am – 7 pm
  • Friday and Saturday: 10 am – 4 pm
  • Sundays: Closed

Please note the following:

  • All visitors over the age of 2 are required to wear masks and observe social distancing of at least six feet at all times while in the library building.
  • Patrons are encouraged to use hand sanitizer prior to entering the building and after touching library materials and surfaces. Hand-sanitizing stations are placed throughout the building.
  • For patron and staff safety, sneeze guards have been installed at all public service desks.
  • We have installed a bipolar ionization air filtration system and cleaned all HVAC ductwork to reduce bacteria and viruses in the air.
  • No donations can be accepted until further notice.

Curbside pick-up guidelines:

  • To reserve items for curbside pick-up please place a hold on your item(s) through the library catalog.
  • Once your items have been pulled from the shelves, you will receive a notification via email or text. Items can be picked up at the circulation desk or you can schedule curbside pickup. Please click on the link within your notification to schedule your curbside pick-up, or click here. You will be asked to enter your library barcode number and PIN. If you do not know your PIN, please give us a call for assistance
  • If the library is unable to email or text you, you will receive a phone call when your hold is ready.
  • Once you are ready to pick up your items, please select Check-in for Pickup to let us know you are on the way. Your items will be waiting for you on a table in the lobby.
  • Materials will be held for up to 4 days.
  • If you need to cancel your scheduled pickup, please select Manage Existing Pickup.
  • Please park in the parking spots marked “Curbside pick-up”. Curbside spots are not free parking.
  • Please enter the lobby one person or family at a time while wearing masks to retrieve your items.

Mobile Check-out is here! Download the cloudLibrary app and borrow library materials right from your smartphone:

  • Download and install the cloudLibrary app on your phone.
  • Select Summit Free Public Library from the list of libraries in New Jersey.
  • Enter your library account barcode number and PIN and you are ready to go. If you do not know your PIN please give us a call for assistance.
  • During your visit to the library, select an item from the shelves and scan the library barcode using the cloudLibrary app. The library barcode is usually located inside the back cover of the book or on the back cover of DVDs/BluRays and audiobooks.
  • Repeat for all items you want to borrow.
  • Finish the check-out process within the app, making sure all items have been scanned and checked out.
  • Please make sure that all discs are included before you check out and when you return a DVD TV series or Book on CD.

Returning materials:

  • All materials must be returned in our book drops.
  • All returned materials will be placed under a 72-hour quarantine, following American Library Association guidelines.
  • Returned items will remain on the cardholder’s account during the quarantine period. Items will be backdated upon check-in to reflect the date that they were actually returned.

Tip:  Please check your DVD and books on CD cases and to make sure all discs are present and accounted for. Please check DVD players and listening devices if something is missing.

The library is available 24/7 via the electronic services that we provide.
