This month, the Youth Services Department has some exciting news to share. The Library just started a subscription to a new interactive database called Fiero Code. Fiero Code is a self-guided online software program that teaches you how to code through hundreds of coding tutorials and dozens of real-world projects. Fiero Code offers a gamified learning experience ― as you progress through the activities, you’ll earn clothes and accessories for your personal avatar. Learn the basics of HTML, CSS, Javascript, Python, Scratch, and SQL. You can design and build websites, video games, apps, animations, programs, and more!
All Summit residents and students attending school in Summit can access Fiero Code by creating an account through this link. When making an account, you will need your library card number and PIN. This autumn, we are excited to launch a series of Coding Clubs for families to introduce the community to the Fiero Code program. Be on the lookout for specific events in the Library’s calendar. We also encourage our patrons to jump in and explore Fiero Code on their own, either on the computers at the Library or from their devices at home.
Also, this month, we would like to highlight Candyland, our annual life-sized board game for kids and families. Join us on Saturday, October 18, for fun and games. Each participant will work their way through a life-sized version of the board game Candyland and earn prizes at Grandma Nuts House, Lolly Pop Island, the Ice Cream Sea, Gum Drop Mountain, and Candy Castle. Register on the Library’s website to attend the event.
