From the Director – August 2025

Dear Summit Free Library patrons and community members,

I’m excited to share a few updates about how we’re continuing to enhance your experience at the Library, both inside and out.

New Outdoor Seating

This week, we installed two new, permanently affixed picnic tables on the lawn along Maple Street. These tables are available for library patrons looking to enjoy the outdoors while reading, studying, or connecting with others. While we love seeing you inside the building, we’re also committed to making the most of all our available space and bringing the Library experience beyond our walls.

Indoor Seating Upgrades Coming Soon

Later this summer, we’ll be adding new indoor seating to better meet the needs of patrons looking for comfortable, functional spaces to read, work, and study. Installation is scheduled for late August. While we anticipate some noise during the process, we appreciate your patience as we make these improvements to better serve you.

Elevator Modernization Project

Finally, beginning August 11, we’ll begin a full elevator modernization project to enhance safety and accessibility. Construction is expected to last approximately three weeks. During this time, the elevator will be out of service. All in-person programming will be held on the Library’s first floor. If you are unable to access the second floor but would like to borrow materials from that level, please speak with a member of our staff. We’re always happy to help.

We’re proud to continue evolving alongside you to provide a welcoming, responsive, and inspiring place for all. As always, if there is anything that we at the Library can do to better meet your needs, please feel free to contact me at abs@summitlibrary.org or (908-)277-9455.

Sincerely,

Amy Behr-Shields, Library Director
