Youth Services Highlight — October 2026

Do you know about all of  the different free online resources that the Library has available for children who live in Summit or have a Summit library card? LOTE4Kids offers picture books in over 90 world languages including sign language. You may access LOTE4Kids online, or download the app onto an Android or Apple device; just search for Summit Free Public Library to get started. Early Learning by World Book contains stories, information, games, and coloring activities for our youngest learners, while the World Book Kids and Student resources assist children and teens with basic research on their level. Fiero Code is not just for kids. It does teach the basics of computer programming languages including Scratch Coding and Python in a game environment, however there are career pathfinders for teens and adults that teach HTML Javascript and SQL to help with employment skills. We hope that you will try them out.

This year, the Summit Free Public Library is celebrating Banned Books Week, which highlights the value of free and open access to information, with both a “Read Out” and a “Read In.” Celebrating its fourth year, all are welcome to watch eleven volunteers in middle and high school participate in our annual Banned Books Read Out on Tuesday, October 6 at 7:00 PM, moderated by Dr. Jocelyn Chadwick, a former faculty member of the Harvard Graduate School of Education and an internationally recognized expert on Mark Twain and the issues of censorship in education. Students in middle and high school are welcome to join us for our first Banned Books Read In on Thursday, October 8, at any time from 3:00-5:00 PM in the Hickok Room. Designed as our very first silent book club for teens, we will have several banned or challenged books in different categories to choose.
