July is an exciting time in the Youth Services Department at the Summit Free Public Library. Our summer reading program is in full swing! This year’s theme is Unearth A Story. Make sure to register and pick up your summer reading BINGO card by stopping by the Ask Us Desk in the Children’s Room. We have lots of fun books and other materials to check out, and our friendly library staff would be happy to help with suggestions on what to read. Are you in middle school? We have you covered. We have a special section in our Young Adult Room with all the required Summer Reading books for LCJMS students in grades 6-8. Are you in high school? We have helpful suggestions for your summer assignments and the assigned reading for AP classes.
After registering for summer reading, make sure to celebrate with us at one of our many upcoming programs such as Wednesdays of Wonder (grades K-2), featuring Early American Toys and Tales, Color Me Mine, and Kids in the Kitchen.
For kids in grades 3-6, we have Time Travel Thursdays, featuring Resin Dino Bookmarks, Oregon Trail Tournament, and Pioneer Pancakes and Butter. For our Pre-K friends on Tuesdays, we have Dig Into Stories, Magic of Make Believe, Grow a Story, and Exploration Station. Also on Thursdays, we offer a Crafty Kiddos program for this age group.
For all elementary school kids in grades K-5, Mondays are Garden Days. Our garden is in full bloom with lettuce, beets, carrots, tomatoes, watermelon, cucumbers, and more. Make sure to join us for weekly STEAM, cooking, and harvest activities. And make sure to join us for our field trip to the Summit Tiny Forest on August 10.
For middle schoolers in grades 6-8, Tuesday Teen Nights are back and better than ever. Bring your friends and join us for a Jurassic Park Movie Night, Junk Journals, and Dungeons and Dragons.
