From the Director - May 2013

Many wonderful things are happening at the Summit Free Public Library these days. Our new attractive and easy to navigate website is up and ready to access at www.summitlibrary.org. We will continue to add content over the next few months. Consult the easy to use calendars to see upcoming events for all ages and access the many different databases from Job and Career Accelerator to the Home Improvement Reference Center. You can also check our library catalog to see our holdings, renew an item you already have checked out or check your account to see what items you have on hold.

The librarians have also been busy at work making plans for summer programs and activities. The Youth Services department will be announcing the exciting summer reading program with the theme “Dig into Reading” for children and “Beneath the Surface” for teens. The Youth Services librarians will be offering reading incentives and plenty of fun activities and programs.

Spring isn’t over yet and the CATSS (Cool Awesome Teen Students of Summit) program for students in grades 6 through 12 will continue to meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons at 3:00 pm. The kids play video games, do crafts, have snacks and even do some homework!  And there are three or more story times each week for babies, toddlers and young children. Consult the website for registration information and schedule.

Watch for the announcement for English as a Second language conversation classes to be offered for adults this summer. And, of course, the International Film series will feature six outstanding foreign films over six weeks at two convenient times each week from July 8th through August 12th.
