In January of 2024, the Summit Free Public Library (SFPL) retained ReThinking Libraries LLC to lead a strategic planning process aimed at shaping the future of the Library. The goal was to craft a roadmap that would guide the Library into its next chapter, ensuring it remains vibrant and ready for the future. ReThinking Libraries conducted comprehensive research to inform this process, gathering insights from:
- A community survey
- Two staff engagement sessions
- One trustee engagement session
- Five community sessions
- 1 stakeholder session
- A library services analysis
- Prior annual reports
In the spring of 2024, SFPL held a retreat with trustees, city officials, patrons, and staff. ReThinking Libraries developed a plan, incorporating feedback from senior staff and trustees. The resulting strategic plan focuses on:
- Enhancing the quality and usability of resources, programming, services, & technology
- Creating a facility that supports the needs of the community
- Strengthening the Library’s role within the community’s cultural and
social activities - Fostering a high performing and engaged staff
SFPL is dedicated to evolving with the community’s needs. The Library staff remains committed to its mission: to inform, enrich, and inspire. By implementing this five-year plan, SFPL will focus on improving resources, programming, services, technology, facilities, community engagement, and staff development to continue fulfilling its mission.
