Highlight: Summit Lions Club and David Murdock Sr.

This entry has been published on December 7, 2022 and may be out of date.

In 2005, the Summit Lions Club sponsored our large print collection in memory of member David Murdock Jr. Since the main mission of the Lions is to assist those who are visually impaired, the donation was a natural fit. Helen Keller challenged the Lions clubs across the United States to become “Knights of the Blind” in 1935.

Dave Murdock was a long time member of the Summit Lions Club. He passed away in 1980. He served as President and then later as secretary for many years. The Lions club, under Dave’s leadership, was instrumental in introducing the large print collection to the visually impaired. Dave was active in the Summit community. He was a funeral director with Brough Funeral Homes in Summit for many years (now Bradley, Brough & Dangler Funeral Home). Many residents remember Dave as a kind and service-oriented gentleman when handling funeral arrangements for their loved ones.

Many thanks to Peter Twill for providing background information on the Lions and David Murdock Sr.
