Haiku Contest Winners!

This entry has been published on June 18, 2020 and may be out of date.

In honor of National Poetry Month, we held a haiku contest back in April. Participants were asked to create an original haiku poem about the Spring for the chance to win serious bragging rights! A haiku is a short un-rhymed poem having three lines containing five, seven and five syllables, respectively. Our judges took this contest very seriously. We are proud to announce the winners today:

WINNER: Hadley Grace Harbaugh

Tulips are dancing
The sun’s been shining all day
I am dancing too

RUNNER-UP: J L.
Title: Essie

Green eyes, fluffy fur
Sunny naps, pouncing on strings
My cat is the best

TEEN CATEGORY:

WINNER: Penny Duran
Title: Daily Walk

As the world pauses
I relish the fresh spring air
Alone with my thoughts.

RUNNER-UP : Lillian Duran
Title: Butterflies

Little butterflies!
The beautiful spring has come.
I gaze with surprise.

WINNER: Cezar Calingo
Title: Ablaze @ Sunrise

Simply just because
Of days to be spent with you
At sunrise, I smile

RUNNER-UP: Claire Kinnane (Arlington, Virginia)
Title: Surgical Mask

It fogs my glasses.
But I can still smell flowers
through it, on my walk.

Congratulations to all of our winners and runners-up! Thank you to everyone who participated. We hope you enjoyed the contest.
