From the Director — October 2019

This entry has been published on January 5, 2019 and may be out of date.

You already know that you can borrow books, CDs, DVDs, Playaways, books-on-CD and more at the Summit Library. Most people even know that you can check out eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and access online databases like Ancestry® and Rosetta Stone® using your library card. Starting October 1st we will be launching a brand new service called the “Library of Things” that will expand the library collection to provide a different type of resource.Going camping and hoping to enjoy the starry night sky or spy some beautiful birds nesting in the trees? Heading to the beach in search of lost treasures? Looking to learn how to play a new instrument? The first items that are available in the “Library of Things” include star-gazing kits with telescopes, a bird-watching kit with binoculars, a metal detector and a ukulele. Coming soon are a giant Connect Four® game, giant Jenga® game and giant chess game all suitable for parties or just for fun. Additional items on order include a compound microscope, a vintage vinyl record player, HotSpots and even a sewing machine. You can put a hold on any of these items through the library catalog and borrow the items for two weeks at a time. Be the first to borrow from the “Library of Things.”

Many of these items are made possible through the generosity of our Friends of the Library. Help support more wonderful new programs and resources by donating to, volunteering or purchasing jewelry at the upcoming Friends of the Library Jewelry Sale on November 2nd and 3rd.
