Dear Summit Free Public Library patrons and community members,
June is an exciting time of year for libraries – it is the start of Summer Reading! Summer Reading is designed to help young children build reading and language skills, to motivate teens to read and discuss literature, and to encourage adults to experience the joy of reading. This year’s theme is “Adventure Begins At Your Library” or “La Aventura Comienza En Tu Biblioteca.”
This year, we are kicking off Summer Reading with a celebration! I’d like to invite you to bring a lawn chair or blanket and join us on Saturday, June 8 from 2-5PM at our “150th Birthday Celebration” on the Village Green. This event promises fun for everyone – with Jester Jim’s comedy and juggling, an official ceremony (that includes cupcakes!), and songs from Vivid Stage.
Once the celebration is over, you can sign up for our Summer Reading program at one of the links below. After you sign up, stop by the Library to grab your “passport to adventure” and keep track of your reading to be entered to win a multitude of prizes (including gift cards to local shops and restaurants!). The Summer Reading program runs from June 8 through August 31, and you can sign up at any time during the summer.
Whether you choose a beach read or thriller, a required book for school, or a book that you’ve read to a tired toddler hundreds of times, be a part of our community of readers this summer!
As always, if there is anything that we at the Library can do to better meet your needs, please feel free to contact me at abs@summitlibrary.org or (908) 277-9455.
