From the Director – December 2023

As we enter into December and begin to prepare for the new year, I want to shine light on an upcoming milestone at the Library. In 2024, the Summit Free Public Library celebrates 150 years of serving the community. It’s a significant anniversary that we are commemorating with 150 days of celebration – and we have lots of moments to celebrate thanks to the continued support of you, our patrons.

Throughout the past 150 years, residents of Summit have seen their Library expand and evolve to continuously focus on the needs of the community. And in the years to come, we will continue to inform, enrich, and inspire through new and innovative services, resources, materials, and spaces. For those interested in a taking a short walk through the Library’s history, please click here.

And at the heart of the Library has always been its multi-talented and dedicated staff that have served the residents of Summit to meet their information and literacy needs. I want to thank the staff for their work in building this amazing, community-oriented institution and for all of their work in preparing to celebrate this milestone anniversary. I am, and always will be, deeply grateful for all that they do.

We invite you to join us during our 150th celebration for special programs, events, book lists, displays, nods to our history, and more. Thank you for being a Library user this year. We look forward to serving you for many years to come.

As always, if there is anything that we at the Library can do to better meet your needs, please feel free to contact me at abs@summitlibrary.org or (908) 277-9455.

Sincerely,

Amy Behr-Shields
