From the Director – August 2022

This entry has been published on August 1, 2022 and may be out of date.

Dear Summit Free Public Library patrons and community members,

Did you know that the Library is one of the City’s designated cooling centers? If you need a break from the heat, the Library offers an array of services to keep you cool, hydrated, and entertained! Whether you want to stop in to fill up your water bottle at our new bottle filling station, grab your next summer read, contribute to our community puzzle, or attend a program – we are here for you!

Don’t want to leave the comfort of your air-conditioned home? The Library is at your fingertips with our new Summit Free Public Library mobile app! Search the catalog, place holds, access our most popular resources and services, register for programs, and manage your account all from your mobile device (click here for instructions to download the Summit Free Public Library app from the App Store). You can also access the Library from home by joining one of our virtual programs, such as the Virtual Author Talk with Marcia Chatelain, author of the 2021 Pulitzer Prize winning book Franchise: The Golden Arches in Black America.

Looking to travel beyond the pages of your next read? Library card holders can check out FREE passes to local museums and attractions. Here is a complete list of Museum Passes available to Library card holders*:

American Museum of Natural History || Brooklyn Botanical Garden || The Eastern State Penitentiary (NEW) || The Frick Collection || Guggenheim || Imagine That!!! (NEW)|| Intrepid Museum || Jewish Museum || MoMA (NEW) || Morris Museum || Museum of Early Trades & Crafts || Newark Museum || New York Historical Society || Storm King Art Center || Thomas Edison Center Menlo Park

Not afraid to brave the heat? Don’t forget to stop by the Library’s tent on Tuesday, August 2 at 6-9PM for National Night Out. Chat with staff, learn about our different programs and services, and play giant lawn games from our Library of Things!

As always, if there is anything that we at the Library can do to better meet your needs, please feel free to contact me at: abs@summitlibrary.org or (908) 277-9455.

Sincerely,

Amy Behr-Shields
