Like businesses, schools and other “non-essential” services across the country the Summit Library’s doors are closed and locked. Library staff is not permitted to be in the building but we are working hard to continue library service to our patrons. In the last two weeks our staff has promoted many existing services such as eBooks, eMagazines, movies, music and databases all available at your fingertips through our website with your library card.
If your library card is expired or you don’t have a card, we can issue a temporary card when you e-mail your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and age to firstname.lastname@example.org. We’ll get back to you with a barcode number and PIN that will enable you to access many of these resources. When the library re-opens, just stop in with your identification to get your library card.
But beyond those resources we are also offering live programs and replays of programs past. Are you missing Mrs. Wheeless’ regular Thursday afternoon Serendipity story time program? Sign up for REMIND text messages @sfpllittles or @sfplkids to get a reminder sent to your phone for the next story time. We are also offering a live lecture by Randy Levin via Zoom for college-bound teens and parents entitled “The Top Ten Mistakes Students Make on Their College Application Essays.” Registration is limited to 100 so be sure to sign up soon on our website.
You can also access videos of past library programs including WWII veteran Robert Max’s inspiring story of his time in a concentration camp. The Long March Home is available on You Tube. If international espionage is of interest, check out the lecture that MSNBC journalist Amy Knight gave on her book Orders to Kill: The Putin Regime and Political Murder also on YouTube.
Look around our website to see all the other great things we have planned for you when you are home –a haiku contest, family challenges, games and useful links to webcams at zoos, museums, theaters, exercise routines and more. Even with our doors closed we are here to serve you. We look forward to re-opening soon!
