Anne Plaut

Photographs

The Summit Free Public Library and the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey announce an exhibition of photographs by Anne Plaut in THE GALLERY at the Summit Free Public Library, August 1 through September 30, 2008.

Anne Plaut has been interested in photography for many decades and her photographs span that time period. She has been a resident of Summit for more than 40 years. She and he husband, Jon Plaut, raised their three sons here. Trained as a journalist, she has been associated with weekly newspapers both here and in Pennsylvania. More recently, she has been a geriatric social worker, with an MSW from Rutgers University. In both her journalism and social work, she has used her photography as an adjunct to her profession.

Anne Plaut says of her work: "As a photographer, what I am interested in is the picture itself. The photograph, unadorned, without technical manipulations. In a sense, I guess I am an old-fashioned photographer because I am little concerned with the mechanics of modern photography. Rather, it is the quality of the image and what it says to me that is important. I have been fortunate, throughout my adult life, to be able to travel to far-flung locales. I particularly enjoy getting away from the hustle and bustle of modern life and immersing myself in nature. Therefore, many of my photographs were taken while we were enjoying the pleasures of travel, while some were taken close to home."
