Dear Summit Free Public Library patrons and community members,
As students and families settle into a new school year, the Library is here to help make the transition easier. Whether a student needs reliable information for a research project, additional reading practice, a quiet place to study, or simply somewhere to relax after school, the Library offers resources and programs to support them.
This year, students have access to more materials than ever before. Through the Library’s new membership with Main Library Alliance, Summit cardholders can borrow from a collection of more than three million items – including books, audiobooks, and other materials. If the title you need is not available in Summit, it can be requested from another library and delivered here for pickup.
A Summit Library card also provides access to online research tools and homework resources. Our Homework Help and More page is a great place to begin, offering reliable resources for research, test preparation, and other school assignments. At the Library, students can also use public computers and Wi-Fi, print out assignments, reserve quiet study rooms, and ask our librarians for help finding trustworthy information.
Learning happens beyond homework, too. Programs such as our Handwriting Workshop, Books & Woofs, Next Gen Debaters, and Book Buddies give children and teens opportunities to strengthen their writing, reading, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
Sometimes, students simply need time to unwind. CATSS, our drop-in after-school program for students in grades 6–8, offers a welcoming place to spend time with friends, enjoy activities, and take a well-earned break from the school day.
A new school year brings excitement, new routines, and challenging assignments! We hope students and families will think of the Library as a partner in information, learning, discovery, and success. If you are unsure which resource or program would best meet your family’s needs, please ask us. Our staff would be happy to help you get started. As always, if there is anything we can do to better serve you, please feel free to contact me at abs@summitlibrary.org or (908) 277-9455.
Sincerely,
Amy Behr-Shields
Library Director
